Background of the Study
Climate change poses a growing threat to public health, with potential effects ranging from increased vector-borne diseases to malnutrition and mental health issues (Ikpeme & Bello, 2024). Climate change education is crucial for raising awareness of these health risks and encouraging preventive actions. In Adamawa State, where climate-related impacts such as floods and droughts are becoming more frequent, there is a need to examine how climate change education influences public understanding of health risks. Despite the increasing importance of this issue, there is a lack of studies investigating the relationship between climate change education and public perception of associated health risks in Adamawa State.
Statement of the Problem
Climate change poses serious health risks in Adamawa State, but the extent to which the population is informed about these risks through education remains unclear. Public perception of climate change’s health impacts is vital for developing effective public health interventions. However, the effectiveness of climate change education in altering perceptions and behaviors regarding health risks needs to be assessed.
Objectives of the Study
1. To evaluate the level of climate change education in Adamawa State and its impact on public awareness of health risks.
2. To assess public perceptions of the health risks associated with climate change.
3. To identify factors influencing the effectiveness of climate change education in raising awareness of health risks.
Research Questions
1. What is the level of climate change education provided to the public in Adamawa State?
2. How do residents of Adamawa State perceive the health risks associated with climate change?
3. What factors influence the effectiveness of climate change education in shaping public perceptions of health risks?
Research Hypotheses
1. Climate change education in Adamawa State is not widespread or effective in raising awareness of health risks.
2. Public perception of climate change as a health risk is low among the population of Adamawa State.
3. Factors such as media exposure and educational outreach programs significantly influence public perceptions of climate change’s health risks.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on residents of Adamawa State and assess the impact of climate change education on their perceptions of health risks. Limitations may include variability in educational outreach methods, differences in demographic factors, and the challenge of measuring perceptions accurately.

• Climate Change Education: Educational efforts to inform the public about the causes, effects, and risks associated with climate change.
• Public Perception: The way in which the public understands and interprets climate change’s impact on health, influenced by education, media, and experience.
